Has anyone visited or camped here? What are you reviews? Trying to choose between this and Kankakee River State park, been to Kankakee and it's OK to pretty good.

We are going with kids from 4th grade through freshman, so hiking, playground, swimming and things to do for them are important. I do like the fact that it is close to Castle Rock State Park for hiking.

No campers or IL State park visitors here? I'll provide a review after we visit.

Enjoyed our trip Memorial Day weekend. Nice campsites with lots of trees. We were farther back, which was nicer, more wooded but farther from the showers and flush toilets. Some short, but very pretty hiking trails. Castle Rock State park is nearby for more hiking. Just north of Byron is Lake Louise which is great for kids to go swimming since there is no swimming in the Rock River.
Will definitely go back again. Also some nice road cycling routes right out of the state park, but be ready for hills!
