What is the minimum retirement age for residents in the state of Illinois? My mom was born in 1955 and has been working her entire life (mostly in the cleaning & dry cleaning services). What is the minimum age she needs to be before she can start receiving her retirement check??

( I tried googling it, but I did not see a clear-cut answer. )

thank you

Just note...

Full retirement for someone born in 1955 is actually 66.

If she retires at age 62, she is eligible for EARLY retirement, which is only 74% of full benefits (and remains at 74% for her entire retirement--it doesn't increase when she reaches 66).

And note, retirement benefits are a federal benefit. It doesn't matter where she lives.

Retirement Calculator

The amount of monthly benefit your mother is eligible for is dependent upon how much she earned and paid into the social security system. She should get an annual statement from the SSA indicating how much she could receive, but you can also use some calculators here (some are very generic estimates, some are very specific):

Thats if you live that long. 66 Vs 62. I'll take the reduced check.
