Hi,

I am planning to move to Evansville in August and have been looking at houses online. I want to live near USI, but the city crime map does not reach that far west. Is it safe near USI? Does anyone know about the subdivision directly north of campus or the newer one, Willow Creek, just southwest of campus? What about homes near Felstead and Broadway? Mostly, I'm looking for safety near campus and would prefer a subdivision where I can walk my dogs. I would appreciate ANY advice. Thanks for your help. It's really appreciated!

Ame

I would think that most of the areas around USI are safe. Just past USI a couple of miles is the Posey/Vanderburgh county line too. There are several subdivisions that way too, and they would be within 10 minutes or so of USI.

I grew up in that area, in Posey County, Marrs Township. I always felt very safe in that area. We weren't right in Evansville but close enough to get to it quickly. And since I have moved away in 1988, the west side of Evansville has just exploded! My parents wouldn't have to drive any further east than Rosenberger Ave anymore to get almost anything they wanted! (I can remember when I was a young child that the only thing past Rosenberger was a little gas station at the corner of Ind 62 and Red Bank Road. You could drive from the Bristol Myers Plant at St. Joe Ave and 62, all the way to Mt. Vernon to 4th street and not have one stop light!)

I am sure if you contacted the Evansville Chamber of Commerce or other organizations like that, you could get a lot of information.

Would you mind telling me where you are moving from? City, suburb, rural? Might make a difference on where you want to locate in the Evansville area.

Good luck!

Thanks a lot for the information!

I'm from Michigan, but I have lived in Nicholasville, KY for a few years. It's a town with about 30,000 people and many of us commute to Lexington for work. I really like the town, but hate the commute (it's only 30 minutes, but very congested with many stoplights). I live downtown, which I like because I can walk the dogs on many different routes, and I like having neighbors.

Thanks again! It's nice of you to help me out.

Hey, no problem. Evansville gets a bad rap, but I really loved growing up out in Marrs township. USI is in Perry township in Vanderburgh county, and it is growing at a rapid pace.

I think you should be able to find something that fits your needs in that area.
