I liked Mike Pence in the past, especially when he stood up against the corporate bailouts that Bush pushed through. Recently though I have read some reports on his social views, he is much more of a religious fanatic than I'm comfortable with when it comes to things like government involvement in marriage and abortion. On the flip side, the ISTA/AFLCIO/AFSCME/UAW party here in Indiana, a/k/a Democrat Party, offers me some social policy that I'm comfortable with the trade-off of skyrocketing taxation based on their views of how/what government should be and serious desires to strip me of the right to self-protection (ie: Firearms).

So basically, I have to pick the best of the worst.

did you look into that guy who threw his hat in from Fishers? He may be a little more palatable for you ... not sure what his social issues are though.

Not one usually to get involved in politics here but.....

There isn't a moderate bone in Pence's body.

He looks like a distinguished soap opera actor though, which is probably enough to appeal to some people. Kind of surprised he didn't run for president--kind of wish he did.

When I vote in this election, it'll be the first time I've done so in a state where the governor and presidential races are at the same time. Looking forward to it!

Also, for Democrats complaining about the bad job the state party has done selecting and grooming candidates: look at Florida. The brightest star in that party still couldn't beat a crook. At least Indiana Democrats aren't that bad.

Unfortunately for Democrats, they always over-step. The state Democrat party in Indiana is always joked to basically be nothing more than a branch of labor unions, with heavy emphasis on the ISTA. I do think the property tax issue hurt Democrats statewide.

What did they think was going to happen when they basically said status quo was OK? This was back when status quo meant that property taxes on a $400K home in Meridian-Kessler and Butler-Tarkington, in the IPS school district, were $11,000 A YEAR!! I remember the protests down at the statehouse during this. People were livid, and rightfully so. I didn't even know how upset life long Indy Democrats (who are likely more undecided/no party types, but lean left) were until they voted for a no body. They actually booted Peterson and voted for Ballard. That was one of the more shocking elections I have witnessed. Thankfully for the faithful Indy Dems, Ballard has been no different when it comes to pay to play politics, tax hikes, and bailing out billionaires.

The state Democrat party needs massive change. They need to get rid of Bauer. They need to focus on logic, reasonable government. Bauer is a six-figure a year government job hack. So long as the IN state Democrat party brings in some younger folks, without all the 'pay to play government is good' mentality, and have ideas for reasonable taxation, they could start regaining some ground they have lost.
