We're in the earliest stages of exploring a possible move to South Bend. Does anyone know anything about the Notre Dame Avenue Housing Program? Specifically, does anyone know the cost range of a new house constructed through the program? Are there any restrictions if an owner wanted to sell? Any information would be very much appreciated!

Check the South Bend city website... I'm not familiar with the program, but I remember there was a lot of neighborhood-specific information on the website that was focused on housing (and specifically to promote programs like this.)

It appears as if that particular program is only for those that work for Notre Dame, and there is a waiting list for lots.

Just for your information, there are many existing beautiful homes for sale all around Notre Dame on much nicer/safer
city blocks at much lower prices. I mentioned this on another thread: Coquillard Woods, Jefferson Park and the
Sunnymeade areas.

**and the homes vary in sizes (large to small) architecture and cost.

Those neighborhoods are definitely on our list as well. But to be able to walk to campus would be a great thing, and those neighborhoods, while very close, are mostly not quite walkable.

Also, we would need a rather large house -- 5 bedrooms -- and there are a few, but not tons.
