I got a notice last night from Time Warner Cable that Triangle area subscribers can now watch ESPN content online:
Quote:
No matter where you are, in addition to watching ESPN live online at ESPNnetworks.com and catching more than 3,500 live sporting events on ESPN3.com, you now have free access to even more of your favorite ESPN networks and programming – right on your computer.
If you subscribe to a TV package that includes ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPN Buzzer Beater, you can watch them on your computer for FREE.
All you need is a Time Warner Cable username and password.
Just another reason to hate TWC. Those of us that just have internet service with TWC can't get ESPN online. I can't wait to drop them all together when I can get something else.
Requiring a TV package to get an Internet stream is beyond idiotic but it's not TWC's fault. I guess ESPN hasen't figured out how to profit from additional eyeballs on Internet streams so we have this draconian nonsense.

I don't claim to understand the TW business model but I think this makes sense to them. They're all about the bundle these days ($33/$33/$33) and concepts like this tend to stem the flow of subscribers off their video network and to the IP only connections. They have a cost problem if folks use them for Internet only. So bundle, bundle, bundle ...
So I'm not a fan of TW either, but from a biz perspective its hard to argue with their performance and stock appreciation over the last few years.

I understand their intentions, but it's still an idiotic bundle from a customer's POV. I think the fact that ESPN3 access is given away to students/military is the only thing keeping it relevant. It could be so much more.
EDIT: Hmm. Looks like this is TWC's fault. I didn't realize that other ISPs are not requiring a TV package for ESPN3 access.

They said on the radio this morning that the $33/$33/$33 deal ends tomorrow.

Just wanted to add I have the ACC app on my Iphone, and they show some of the BB and Football games live over the phone. I'm a FSU fan, so using the wi fi connection on my phone I get to see some of the games they don't show on TV in this area.
I don't see hwy peope that hate a certai service don't just get a antoehr provider. TXC certqainly is doinf well tho nayway fro the profits.
