This seems to be a great deal or is it ? The service still works today & im thinking about using them for internet access when msntv closes down in late sept providing i can afford to buy a laptop computer. http://www.fastfreedialup.com/index.html
There are millions of Americans who do not have cell phone coverage where they live, and tens of millions with no affordable internet service, where the minimum monthly rate is about $70 plus tax, with only one provider, Podunk Tel. You can set your browser to receive only text, and dialup is plenty fast enough for that, provided your only need is to access information. No problem reading and composing in these forums, reading Wikipedia, etc. You just won't get pictures. Or ads.
Reference to my above post, it is now apparently not possible to configure current browser versions to display text only. There are several programs that will now do that for you, but I've tried a couple of them and can't get them to work. Tidyread works in Chrome only, I installed it as a Chrome add-on, and the icon appears on my page, but clicking it just grays out. I also installed Baresite, which is supposed to do the same thing, but how to activate is a closely guarded secret.
Firefox has an add-on that hides images, but it looks like everything loads, including colored panels where images would have appeared, there is just no image. All text appears in colored and custom fonts, and not b/w text font.
Maybe somebody else would like to try these.
Sometimes, if there is a problem with my ISP, and the download speed slows way down, my screen displays text only, So it is obviously possible, but apparently no way to tell the browser to do it on demand.

How many of those tens of millions are not interested in the Internet? From an FCC study on February 2010....
Quote:
Of the roughly 60 million adult Americans who don't use the internet at all, 47 per cent cited cost and complexity and 45 per cent agreed with the survey statement that "I am worried about all the bad things that can happen if I use the Internet." Thirty-five percent were of the opinion that "There is nothing on the Internet I want to see or use," and one third thought "The Internet is just a waste of time."
Of all respondents who told the FCC that they don't have broadband - both dial-up and non-internet users - only 4 per cent said that the reason was lack of availability. More important to them was "too much pornography and offensive material" (65 per cent) and their belief that it's "too easy for my personal information to be stolen online" (57 per cent)."
Approx 60 million adult americans dont use the internet for various reasons. Ill be losing my isp (msntv closing down) late next month & i dont plan to use the internet unless i go to the library or in the future can afford a pc & learn to use one. With msntv i didnt have to know much (no computer) & have had the service since 2001. Msntv has made my internet experience simple & easy. I dont need all the bells & whistles.
