My neighbors got Google Fiber. Wi-Fi is included with no extra charge.
I'm still using RoadRunner.
I never had a need for Wi-Fi but I've ordered a Tablet.
With Wi-Fi, I know (or think I know) its slower than an actual hookup.
RoadRunner doesn't come with Wi-FI.
Should I buy a router and get Wi-FI that way for my Tablet or switch to Google Fiber?
I like the internet to be speedy and not sluggish.
Thanks for any help you all can give me.

If fiber is faster than your current provider and the price is right, switch. If not don't. Go buy a wireless router. What is your current connection speed?

How much is google versus roadrunner. Is the Internet fast enough for you now. If you are can't set up wifi yourself , google might be the way for you to go.

My tw roadrunner comes with wifi througout the city .

I just talked to Time Warner. For $10 a month they will give me wifi. I said, no thank you.
Google Fiber is $25 a month wireless included. The speed is only 5 mbps while Roadrunner is 11 mbps (I just checked it).
So I guess I'll buy a wireless router.
Thank you!

I just looked it up, I'd take google, but i dont need a lot of bandwidth. How much do you pay for roadrunner , do you play games , watch hd movies over the Internet , download a bunch of stuff?
Google looks like $25 a month for only one year , then free, maybe I'm reading it wrong.

The 5M tier is "free" with a $300 install charge ( or $25/mo for 12 mo)
1 Gig w/no TV is $70/mo (no install fee)
1 Gig w/TV is $120/mo (no install fee)

see https://fiber.google.com/cities/kansascity/plans/ or
Google Fiber - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The "Network Box" is the fiber connection with wireless router built in (could not find what version WiFi, probably not 802.11ac yet)

My neighbors paid Google Fiber a $10 deposit and it was applied to their first bill. Their wifi is slow. The 5 mbps ($25 a month) is the cheapest and slowest plan. The $70 and $120 plan are the plans that are 100 times faster.
I pay $28 a month to TimeWarner for internet only.

Wow, that is pretty expensive.

We are paying $50 for 100Mbps municipal fiber. Just went up $10/month.

That said....5 Mbps sucks. You might as well have cable. 25 Mbps is marginal. 100 Mbps works fine. Internet TV works, plus four or five connections work at the same time. At 100 Mbps you start noticing that the sites on the other end have speed issues.

I thought long and hard about signing up for the 1Gbps fiber at $150/month and decided to pass. 100Mbps seems to be the sweet spot right now. Maybe when NetFlix starts 4000K service we will upgrade to 1Gbps service.

Doesn't Google fiber offer anything between 5Mbps and 1Gbps??

I have time warner roadrunner and it has Wi-fi modem provide I lease. Perhaps you got the cheapest package that only includes modem/router that doesn't have Wi-Fi. Regardless you can purchase your own and not lease one ;just look at their site for modem/routers you can use list and buy one. There are also programs for computer that can create a hot spot by computer available. the one I use at startup pops up with a click to start it up and then password is just type it in. Same to stop. just one click .Mine is Ralink wireless utility.
