I have aol, and I am trying to find out what country a mail from another aol address is coming from. I don't need a name or address, just country sent from. The problem is all the aol mail I get, does not have the details tab to click on to get the headers box. Any other non aol mail has the sent from the internet tab, and you click, and get the header box.
Does aol hide the tab from aol to aol users? Any ideas?? Thanks.
Is this via a web interface? If so, they may be able to hide that from you. But if it allows for POP access, you can just use a POP client and download the e-mail. From there you may be able to see the header info. Of course, since its within the same domain (AOL to AOL), you may not see it....
Now, even if it does show it, it may not give you a definite answer. The server you connect to may be completely different from the location you are physically located at. I don't know AOL's infrastructure, but its extremely easy to forge an e-mail's relay path. We routinely test other people's security by looking at their e-mail server. And if its incorrectly configured, we can send e-mails that look like it came from an internal user... or even send out e-mail to make it look like originated from a particular company.
Thanks Macroy. I called AOL. It is not possible to get the headers from AOL to AOL. The said they are trying to change that.
