I don't have a TV so want to watch domestic and international news on a cheap subscription service (recommendations appreciated). Also like to watch old TV shows on youtube. It's usually a hit or miss proposition - due to peak time traffic? I don't do anything else online other than usual internet surfing and email.

I've had DSL Extreme since my very first computer so it seems easier to keep since I have no idea how to set anything up and they offer free installation. Not sure what exactly is involved since I have an ugly wireless router already.

I don't want to spend more than I actually need.

You need the 3. MINIMUM.
Anything less will be pretty sad,
10 - 12 would be ideal.

I have 3mbps DSL connection at my Grandmother's I pay for for when I'm there, it's just adequate for reasonable quality video. I can login ointo my Comcast ccount and watch just about anything. The only trouble I seem to have is with live TV and I suspect hat has do them using higher quality stream.

Some services will adjust video quality to how fast your connection is. 3Mbps will probably get you dvd quality or less. But rarely will you ever get the full 3Mbps but should be enough to get adequate quality and help eliminate the pauses and stuttering.

A 1 to 1.5 Mbps 720*480 video using a modern codec will give you about same quality as DVD. My experience has been a 3Mbps connection has trouble coping with 720P for some sources.

I think you are going to be disappointed given the focus on streaming. As others have pointed out, 3MB is going to be unable to display higher resolution video.

Are there any other providers in your area?

I have no idea how to find out. AT&T is my phone service but I'd have buy a bundle of services for devices don''t have.

I sent an email to DSL but not sure what time it is in India.

You don’t have to buy a bundle, they just really want you to.

Google internet service providers and your zip code.

Generally sales works in the US and support is outsourced.

If this is your provider, the 12Mps should work for video.
