A while back on my facebook account i clicked on something where it then put on on the
Enter mobile number
Confirming your mobile number helps you reset your password if you ever need to, find friends, get sms messages and more. Only you will see your number.
Then it allows you to input your number. I either clicked on it by mistake when on facebook or did something but everytime I log into facebook, i get this message and thus cannot view my facebook account unless i type in my mobile number. Is the only way to use my fb account by putting the number in? Could i then remove the number later on? I have no idea how this happened.
I have no issue logging on facebook previously but i assume this is for protecting your account? I haven't been able to log in my facebook account ever since. Is there any security issues if i use my mobile number? I do not use facebook on my phone etc.
Next time you are logged in, click on Settings, then Security and Login, and you'll see several options for logging in, maybe you'll see what the problem is there.
When I had FB (now dormant for years) I didn't list my real name nor any other real info about me and I ignored all their messages about real name and other stuff.
I am pretty sure there are ways to avoid that now too.
OP, what about a fake #?
Added: I just logged into FB and all went smooth without asking me for my phone # . I never entered any # there, even fake and I am still able to use just my nick instead of full name. My DOB is listed as 1911, and no one questioned it either...
So, I am thinking, at some point you updated your personal info and access security.
Phone numbers on legitimate sites are used for verification, often 2-step verification. I don't see a reason for 2-step on FB but anyway. On sites like Ebay, Amazon and other sites, someone can cause a lot of damage if they hack into your account, especially if you store credit card numbers. I guess the same goes for FB? Either way, the 2-step is a good idea in cases like this. Another reason for the phone number is if you forget your password, a text to a mobile number will help you recover it. It's an alternative to email.

People use Facebook to promote businesses and services. That, alone, would be a reason for two-factor authentication.

No. Facepuke collects intel or info or whatever you whatever you want to call it. Facepuke wants your number for Facepuke, so they can sell it or profit off of it in other ways.
Great, a Facepuke apologist who ignores the Facepuke scandal.
