I've used instant messenging and really enjoyed it. I recently got my computer overhauled and lost my instant messenger. Since it was only for work purposes I'm open to finding a different IM account. What is the most common IM that people use? MSN? AIM? or others?

Heck I do it all the time, on the computer and on my cellphone. Sometimes I prefer to text/IM because when youre around people that dont know how to shut up, it almost seems they want to make their presence too obvious, you cant always talk as freely or hear the other person, so messaging is the next best option.

Yahoo is the only other "big one" in addition to AIM and MSN. Google Talk is also getting momentum: Google Talk: Chat with family and friends over the Internet for free but few people still use it or aware of it.

That would be the question to ask, it's really irrelevant what the popular ones are, if your not using what your friends are using, you ain't gonna do much IM'n with them

To me AIM seems most popular because when people add me they usually give me their AOL screen name. Then it's Yahoo right behind.

All of them. Just use a 3rd party IM app (pidgin, adium etc.) and you can talk to people on all protocols.

I use meebo.com

It allows you to use ALL of the IM apps.........However, I use AIM through it.
