I am still somewhat-young, I am now 34. However, I am not young enough to be unaware of the days of the card catalogs. When the town's library adapted computers (pre-internet) to search the catalog, it was a big high-tech improvement! However, I just can't remember when my town's library moved to digital catalogs, even before online services were available. Does anyone remember when their local library ditched the card catalogs for digital catalogs? Also, since I am mentioning the internet, does anyone remember when their local libraries first went online? When I started going away to college in Fall of 1997, the universities all already had internet access. However, when did the local libraries get connected? I just do not remember what the local libraries here in Bergen County, NJ got connected to the internet.

You say "why" as in "Why did I even bother"?

It was 1999 when I first purchased a computer with internet capability. It was truly amazing, I felt like a kid at the candy store. I was doing a lot of traveling during that time and was able to get great internet deals. Of course that was only the tip of the iceberg, as I was able to gain access to endless information. It certainly was addictive.

Around 1990 when there was DOS, dial-up, and BBS. This was my brother's handiwork, so I'll credit him for it.

I had WebTV in 1997. I was living Sedona AZ and paying long distance costs for closest dial up connection in Flagstaff.

I had internet for the first time in 2007 (was looking quite handsome, hehehe). I was using a dialup connection and wasting time on IRC.
I was vacationing in San Francisco in early September 1992, staying in my cousin's apartment. He showed me a no-graphics BBS bulletin board. I thought wow cool

First discovered the internet in 1993 at college. I didn't get broadband internet until about 2001. At home, we didn't get a computer until about 1998. So, it seems like from '98 to 2001, I never got any phone calls because we were online all the time, using dial-up!
