No one is going to buy a car if they can't charge it in large portions of the country, but without people buying the cars there is no demand to place the charging stations.
Hopefully they can get those stations in place so demand can increase. More money will mean more money for technology development, and better cars...plus the technology will filter to other areas.

Whatever anyone thinks of the business model and I offer no knowledge of that, I did take a close look at the Tesla at the Seattle Auto Show last November at the centurylink convention center and thought the materials in the interior of the car looked to be of very high quality .
