I need to know the origins of the name of Owana, a town in Iowa. Also, the correct pronunciation of the name of this western Iowa town. Thank you.

Second request of this type I've seen recently. Are we doing someone's homework for them?

On-a-wah. County seat of Monona county. There's not much there, except for a couple of huge auction houses. But on the bright side, they do claim to have the widest main street in the U.S.A. And oh yeah - it's the birthplace of the Eskimo Pie ice cream sensation. See? You learn something new every day.
![]() Just down the road 8 miles is Whiting - where they filmed Children of the Corn. If you ever saw the town, you'd believe it.... |
