Could anyone tell me if there is a way to know which verses are written in which material?
For instance, when the Qur'an was revealed (other than memorization), Muhammad ordered the Companions to write down the revelation(s). The mediums happened to be stones, dates branch, iron armor, and animal skin.
Do you have information regarding this issue?
I stumbled upon a point of view which argues that these materials have been chosen according to the characteristics of the verses which have been written on them, contrary to the common views that the choosing of these materials seem to be a trivial issue.

Choosing of the material was due to the availability/accessibility at the time of suitable material to write on. It had nothing to do with the subject of the verses. The point to know was that the material could be kept for the safe keeping by different people for future reference.
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) appointed a group of his companions who were trustworthy and knowledgeable to write down the revelation.
