My guess is that it was built for a white denomination.

I followed your first Google link. There were 'similar pictures' below, which leads me to ask why this magnificent (and, I hear, much-visited) landmark is vacant. https://www.google.com/maps/@32.3196...2e1!3e10?hl=en

Did the occupants move to the Camelot Luxury Apartments? The style is similar, but it offers much more space.

Whenever someone is building "Luxury Apartments" in Jackson, I always think of Camelot, which was just the last word in Ritzy, when it was built - an absolute turreted dreamland. People like my Mama DREAMED of hooking up with a rich trucker or telephone lineman, who would set them up in a place like that. Still looks mighty fine today, actually. One can only hope that the "upscale" luxury apartment community planned for Fondren (the one whose touted upscale amenities include CEILING FANS!!!) will be as fine, and age as gracefully, as Camelot.

Reading the history of congregations can be interesting. Grace Presbyterian Church in Byram traces its roots to the Power Memorial Presbyterian Church in old South Jackson.

Grace Presbyterian Church Of Byram in Byram, MS | 130 Byram Pkwy, Byram, MS

Unfortunately, Power Memorial was demolished a few years ago.

I think this is the second location of Power.

The third sanctuary was somewhere along Raymond Road.
