A homeowner at 10580 Crystal Springs Road won the national Great Christmas Light Fight on ABC last year ($50,000 prize). Which generated more a than fair amount of traffic in that area . There's an article in this month's First Coast Magazine about him. The article recommends parking at the shopping center on the corner of Chaffee Road and Crystal Springs Road and walking a block to the house - to avoid the traffic mess.

We drive around our neighborhood during the holiday season to look at the lights. But find - increasingly - that fewer and fewer people are putting them up. We throw some net lights on some shrubs (pretty but nothing spectacular) - and call it a day. Robyn

We took a ride around our neighborhood a couple of nights ago. And were surprised to see lots of houses decorated "to the nines". Very unlike the last few years. Perhaps it is because our HOA is having a decorating contest this year ? I also saw something I'd never seen before - laser Christmas lights:

Laser Christmas lights are this year's frenzy - Dec. 11, 2015

Very nice looking. And no ladders required! Robyn

I'm noticing the same, contest or no, the perceived increase in the number of houses lit up for the holidays. I also noticed the typical throng of people at Town Center, but saw many more with bags than I have in prior years. Think there's a feeling this year that life is good and wallets are thicker?

We took another drive in our neighborhood tonight - and it was much the same (our HOA has over 1100 houses and I think we have close to 100 miles of roads overall - takes a lot of time to cover it all). Same impression as our first drive. I think there is something more going on than people having a few extra dollars in their pockets. Or the fact that LED lights are cheaper in terms of electric costs than the old fashioned ones. Perhaps it's a reaction to all the PC stuff where people in the USA are being told they can't celebrate Christmas in public? I don't know. But it's sure pretty to see all the lights . Robyn

Don't you live in a gated community and therefore, no one but residents of said community can actually see your lights?

The above neighborhood off Girvin is the best display of Christmas lights I have seen by far.
