The funny think is the letter from the HOA discloses which neighbor filed the complaint. I was out last night and a neighbor a few doors down had 4 bags of yard waste which is not supposed to be out until Wednesday it was Sunday (3 days early). I won't report them

There’s a balance that should be struck, that’s what good board members do.

In many HOA's there is. Ours is a great mix between rules and letting people live and enjoy their homes.
That' s why I have a hard time with ignoramuses who just throw stones at them.
People - generally sloppy and lazy people - are the one's that hate them. People who normally keep their homes and yards neat, clean, well maintained and are good neighbors amazingly have no problem living in them...The lazy, sloppy, noisy, trashy, inconsiderate neighbors are the one's that hate them so much...go figure...

I live in a gated HOA community & have no issues with it, I would prefer to have a manned guarded gate & would pay extra to have it, the neighborhood I am in doesn't have this.

Let's face it, in a metro community a significant % of people are barely scraping by, people are willing to pay more to have nicely maintained communities & amenities like large pools & walk/biking trails.

This is an interesting topic. We moved here from an area that doesn't have gated communities so I wasn'toften for busie familiar with them. We fell in love with a house that was in one years ago and bought it. Still live here. When the kids were young and my husband was travelling often for business it was nice to know that there was someone I could call if there was a problem.......like twice when a large snake crawled across the family room floor. The gate guy brought his snake stick and took it out. Before we moved here people were ALWAYS ringing our doorbell with religious offerings that drove me nuts. None of that now......and having like minded neighbors regarding their property values.....well, no one will paint their house lime green with purple shuttersand that suits me fine.

If you can afford a decent gated community it is the way to go. We have lived in one for over 30 years (Not the same one). Gate guards are friendly community is a reasonable size at 500 homes. Everyone keeps their home looking nice and are friendly. The odd one or 2 residents do complain about the HOA but usually for the wrong reasons and they are typically the busybodies with nothing better to do than interfere with other peoples business. Sating that they look after their homes and do not paint their home bright purple, so all good. You definitely get what you pay for, and personally I like to live with people who have means, as opposed to those who do not.
