For me it would come down to how much time I could see myself staying in the city and only the city. If you're going to spend 90% of your time within city limits, KC will definitely be better. If you are going to drive around or take little day trips to other places (natural and city) then Jacksonville would be a better choice.

Good Luck with everything man--exciting times

Jacksonville is the capital of Southern Rock! And we are famous for "Camel Riders" ( Pita Sandwiches for those who don't know)

The Sharks are fun to watch! (Indoor football)

That lack of access to professional sports is a sacrifice you to have to make when choosing to live here. Some may not care, but when you come from somewhere else and you are used to having that as an entertainment option, you may miss it. That's all.

Jacksonville is known for violent crime, racism, homophobia, Southern Baptists and other religious zealots, and extremely hot weather--all very negative things. Kansas City at least has culture, interesting architecture, and a liberal political climate--not to mention, better weather.
