Hi, so my boyfriend and I are looking into moving to the Jacksonville area from PA. We wanted all the Florida amenities but be within a 12 hour drive home. My boyfriend works as a pool technician and would like to be able to work year round instead of his seasonal hours he has now. I am looking into working with children. I have nanny, teaching and special needs experience and would like to stay within those professions. We visited Jacksonville once and was pleased with the area but would like a little more insight on the job market and mid-twenty living areas. Thanks !!

We moved here from Tampa when we were in 20s and that was twenty something odd years ago. We got jobs here we couldn't get in Tampa and the slow pace was perfect for raising our child. As a pool tech your BF could do well here with all the pools, (many are heated.) Recommend you have jobs locked up before you move here. The only downside to Jax is the downtown area still hasn't gone through a renaissance as other cities have (such as Tampa) but they are working on it. The surrounding areas are good but there are bad neighborhoods just like in any other city. Some people come here, don't do well and leave. Others come here and love it. After all these years we still love it here...will never move. Good luck.
