Hi Everyone

I have seen may great answers on this board so I am hoping for some of that clarity.

It looks like we will be moving to Jax this summer. We actually spent about 4 months there last year so I think we in many ways have a good feeling for what Jacksonville is about, but the idea of moving is huge. And with a family of 4, we all seem to have different wants and needs. The kids want to be around other kids and make new, wonderful friends. My husband wants a nice house. My daughter would love a horse--not sure that is happening. I have 2 pet bunnies and a few chickens. I know a lot of people don't love the chicken craze that has swept the country, but please don't be too judgmental of me. I have had a few pet chickens most of my adult life. I don't have to keep my chickens but that would make me sad--maybe something I have to let go of...

So I am thinking Mandarin might be a good area for us. Has anyone had children go there or currently go to Mandarin High? Green cove springs might be good too but I am confused about which high school serves the area and it is a little farther out than I was hoping. Also Fleming island seems like a possibility. Any feedback? Anyone hoping for good new neighbors?

Yes Mandarin offers lots of different housing styles and I think you will be able to find that its located to more amenities such as the beach and better shopping versus Green Cove Springs. I don't know anything about Mandarin High but it looks just my home high school in Sebastian. Sorry I couldn't provide you with anymore specifics.

Not judgmental on the chickens! If I could I would (and have to suffice with Canada geese instead).

Relating to your post about HOAs, I think I'm safe to say that HOAs and chickens do not mix, not anywhere. Chickens and Oak Leaf - nope.

I currently live in north Jacksonville and it's quite a mix of housing opportunities (and there are non HOA properties with chickens - some are free ranging along Starratt Road). I can't comment on all the schools, but I know New Berlin Elementary School is well-liked by parents. I don't have to travel far at all for shopping and other errands.

If urban activities are not important to you, you might seriously take a look at Yulee/Fernandina areas. The shopping and restaurant amenities are there, and so is relatively decent access to I-95. The beach is near. However, I can't comment on Nassau schools, and that would be a factor for you.

I believe Nassau County schools are ranked at about 14th out of the 50 plus county's in Florida........Saint Johns is still holding onto number 1 and will be for a bit it seems.

Like Saint Johns County we are experiencing tremendous growth in Yulee......rentals are sparse, but new home building is booming. Good Luck!
