This is great for Jacksonville, hopefully the timing is not a bit to late. The players in the next generation of transportation vehicles have been forging ahead in their own test locations and using the assets already established at NASA.

Virgin Galactic has spent a considerable amount of capital developing their spaceport in New Mexico.

Sierra Nevada Corp has been looking for alternate locations in Florida which might help Jacksonville.

The governors news coincides with NASA's news:

Which right now do not realistically exist.......meaning we cannot purchase a ticket and and take flight tomorrow, next week, next month or next year. The biggest player in this is Virgin Galactic...and their committed to an already constructed spaceport. The second closest company XCOR Corporation is committed to the Mojave.

I know nobody wants the jet noise but I think Jacksonville telling the Navy no to relocating a squadron here at Cecil Field was a mistake. Jacksonville has always embraced it place as a military community.

Jacksonville should have went after Boeing with passion. I think Cecil would have been a better fit than South Carolina to build their newest jumbo.

It will be quite a while in my opinion before Cecil Field becomes a viable spaceport.
