Hi All,
I heard about whitewater rafting at lakecity. I am trying to get more information so that I can plan a trip to go there this weekend.
Have never done rafting before so I am REALLY excited about it. I am also ‘googling’ to find more information
Any experiences you would like to share?

thanks

I'm not sure about whitewater rafting but I've been to Lake City to ride innertubes down the Icheetucknee Springs. They have crystal clear water, and you rent an innertube boat for around 8 dollars. They have a fee to get into the park, maybe 5 dollars per person (used to be per car now they charge per person). You jump on the tube at a landing at the 45 minute mark, or there's a longer ride maybe 3 hour ride, your choice. We usually do the shorter ride and ride it twice, have a picnic inbetween. Take your own snorkle with you and a plastic baggie to put your keys in. This might be what they are talking about, if its not, then dang! I'd like to know about the whitewater rafting, sounds like fun!

Sorry, but I don't think there is enough rapids in Florida to go whitewater rafting. As Ryde41 pointed out, you can go tubing, which is a more casual and relaxed experience than rafting. This is a great time of year to do it.

Otherwise, if you are looking to go rafting, you'll need to go up to Georgia. I've gone down the Chatooga a couple of times...which is the border of GA, TN, and SC.

LOL! No whitewater rafting in Florida! The closest place I know of is Elijay, GA. Tubing and canoeing- now that's another story. But last time that I canoed the Suwanne, we had to drag the canoe over the shallow areas. Still fun, though.

Man, Icheetucknee Springs is just too slow (water moves '1 mile per hour'). And the water is about 2 feet deep no fish. The only thing white was my tanline. I just go back from there about 2 weeks ago. nothing bad about that place, it was ok but not what I was expecting.

I am also wanting this information. I currently live sorta close to Hardy Arkansas which has some nice rivers there where they range from class 1 - 2. which is great on a canoe. (some excitements on the class 2 if you go backwards). I think the bigger waters is in GA.

Waternut, where are some places closer to Jax.

Thanks

Here's an interesting link I found on my Google search... (a year after the question is asked)

http://www.riverfacts.com/states/fl.html

Seems like this one, http://www.riverfacts.com/rivers/10862.html , Florida whitewater - Turket Creek, Hamilton County , might be the only one worth checking out. It's almost in GA.

Here's another interesting link I found...

If you look at Florida, seems like someone is trying to get Tampa and Miami to build a whitewater park.

Oh, wow...I miss white water rafting! We used to rent a cabin in Murphy, NC and drive to TN to the head of the Oconee River and raft down the gorge. The scenery was breathtaking. That was the river that was used for the Atlanta Olympics since it was the closest river with Class IV or V rapids.

I had no idea that FL had any rapids. Too bad it's so far away.
