What is the sales tax in the JAX metro area? Was wondering and the DOR website isn't the greatest. Since there is no income tax, I'm sure they make up for it somewhere...

St. Johns County used to be 6.5%, but I don't know if that's still true or not. Someone from SJC should weigh in and let us know if that's still the case. But the rest of the Jax metro area is, as Traveling indicated, 7%.

Basically, there's no state income tax because (among other reasons) the tourists pay our taxes. Hotels, restaurants, theme parks, souvenirs, etc., help keep the state afloat, and those taxes are, by and large, paid by the tourists.

so after I relocate, I will no longer have a state income tax (5% here) and my sales tax will go from 8.25% to 7%? Geez, why didn't they move me earlier?

St. Johns County is 6%. Duval is 7%. I did hear they're trying to pass a half cent sales tax to pay for uninsured patients of Shands Jacksonville, the city's only truly public hospital. Anybody hear any more about that?

Haven't heard much about that, but I believe, when that does happen, we'll hear a lot of it.

To the OP, St Augustine is 6%? At least the outlets stores are!
