So, I applied for the job with very good company. I applied the first day it posted and the hiring manager was surprised with that as no one else saw the posting yet. Anyway, I meet their qualifications perfectly. He asked me to stop by for an appointment. At the interview, he asked me to pick a chair behind the interview table- said "it is a test - which chair you choose"))))
Then he was talking about job duties, responsibilities, pay, and timeline for making decision. He then said he has all of the information and will contact me if he needs more details...... That's it!!!!!! They did not ask anything about my experience - the only question they asked was - do you have any questions?
What kind of interview is that? I don't understand - they called me in because they were impressed with my skills and - asked me no questions????
the chair thing was a bit odd. I would have sat in one...then got up and sat in another, until I sat in them all and said "yes, I have a question.... did I pass the chair test?"
Yes, but why would they even called me in? He seemed to know all of my experience from the resume i sent him. All, he did was talking about the job for like 30 minutes. His assistant was also present, but he said nothing at all. And only few question that they asked me: my availability and any questions about job description.
Public Safety Supervisor. The manager actually new to the company. He was a firefighter all his life and asst manager is young (college student - about 25 y.o.)
Maybe they wanted to get a look at you in person. Some employers wont hire a person who looks "different" and they cant very well ask you that over the phone.
To be honest. the chair test would irritate me. Well, not the test actually -- but the telling you it was a test. That could be an indication of a boss who likes to intimidate his employees.
I hate hearing about stupid interviews like this where the managers/company think they are some billion dollar kind of GOD and play stupid games of musical chairs.
I've worked in 12 billion dollar companies and they didn't have time to play this sh*t.
Most likely, they already know who they want to hire. However, due to policy or compliance requirements, they still have to advertise and interview external applicants for due diligence purposes.
Or, they're hiring a friend/relative, and have to make everything look like its by the book.
