I've been actively job searching for out of state opportunities down south, Texas. Many friends and family recommends securing a job before moving. However, they know I am eager to take the plunge to start fresh in a new state. I have friends and family there and won't be going there blindly. I have visited Texas more than six times and I'm ready for this adventure.
I've experienced the economic crisis a couple of years ago. I was laid off from a great job because of a company wide lay-off. It was terrible. Not having a full-time job for 2+ years and working part-time or temporary jobs while paying off college loans. But those part-time and temp jobs were great! I've learned a lot more skills doing those jobs than during my time as a full-time employee in marketing and sales/PR.
Currently working as a multimedia specialists in higherEd, great paying job, but I'm not being challenge. I'm considering a career move and scenery change because I feel this industry doesn't suit me.
My question: Do I have a better chance getting job offers, moving there and applying for jobs with a local address (keeping phone number) or should I continue applying for jobs as an out of state candidate stating I am relocating at my own expense on my coverletter?
