What is the deal with employers dropping communication with candidates? Or maybe this only happens with me.
2 Fridays ago I interview at a startup company. The interview lasts 4 hours and included an intimate talk with the CEO, who seemed to be interested in me as a candidate. She said that she would get back to me in a couple days. I've heard nothing. Now I know someone here is going to say, "You should've followed up with her." Yea .... So as soon as 2-3 business days have passed I'm supposed to email her with, "Hi, just checking in. You said you were gonna get back to me in a couple of days blah blah blah"??? She specifically told me what is next. I don't see what I've done wrong by sitting back and waiting for the promised next response.
Last Thursday I interviewed with a company and felt like I nailed the interview. During my polite farewell I mentioned to one of the interviewers that I would send him the project I've been working on in my free time (He had mentioned he would be interested in seeing it). I sent it that night but never received any confirmation that he received the email.
If you want the job you should follow up if they do not get back to you in the given timeframe, so you can get closure. As for following up on your project email, not everyone sends an acknowledgement email. Just check in if you haven't heard back in the expected timeframe.
You really need to reach down your pants and check if your balls are still there.
Pick up the damn phone and call them. Keep calling until you reach someone. Don't be such a puss. Folks promise a lot of things and it don't mean a thing. You can sit here and butthurt about how they didn't call you when promised or you can take some actual initiative.
Exactly this. It's not as though they are going to forget they wanted to hire you. If they don't get back in touch, it means they are not interested in bringing you on board at this time.

It's amazing to me that the second place I interviewed wouldn't be interested in me. The job I'm leaving is very similar, so there would hardly be any training required of me. They sat me down at a computer to do an assessment of my skills and I breezed through the assessment. I guess there are just so many candidates to choose from, that being a good candidate only puts you among 10 other good candidates who they interview. It's so competitive these days.

Yes, it is competitive, thats why you keep calling hem and reminding them how much better you are than everyone else.
I think calling and following up is useless. I used to do it but later realized there was really no point. If they want you they will call you.
