It's depressing that you folks are always searching for new jobs. Whatever happened to the secure 40 years and a gold watch at the end?

Some of us look in specific areas because of our education and training. Even with that, there's always employer's preference for someone with more experience and certifications.

Outside of that, it's hard to find something that would be worth it and pay enough so we can support ourselves and dependents we may have.

Are state/gov jobs really in that high of demand despite the poorer pay? Wow this is a bad economy.

It depends on the job. Some areas can have significantly poorer pay, but that's if you look at it in the middle of your career.

I just turned 41 & have worked non stop since I was 17 & did 4 years in the military. Ever since I was laid off 6.5 months ago, Ive had exactly ONE interview & I know have sent out ATLEAST 2000 resumes. The other day I was going through some old W2s & noticed a 3 year period where I made almost 320 grand. Now Im down to 450$ a week unemployment & my phone just will not ring. So yah....I didnt think my life would end up this way either. haha

Its not about how many jobs you apply too unless you have no skills and will take anything like retail labor fast food ect. (In that case apply to 20 a day you'll have a job within a week). For actual jobs that have requirements its more dependent on applying to the right one. An entry level designer/developer should not waste time applying every job posting for their industry. Instead only apply to the Jr. positions that will actually hire you.

1 to 2 a day and 5 to 10 for the week is what I did

And why wouldn't you have anything else to do? What about researching companies, creating new cover letters, and networking at job fairs/facebook/linkedin?
