Hi All,

Had a seemingly good phone interview, answered questions well, was told there was they had the authority to hire two candidates but would test out with one first, and was informed that HR would reach out for an in- person interview in a few weeks. A few weeks passed and I reached out. Come to find out they are moving forward with another candidate.

I never I got to the onsite, even though it was promised that it would get to that point. Has this happened to anyone else????

Yup happened to me not too long ago. They called to tell me how interested they were and would be setting something up after New Years. I didnt hear anything by mid january called and was told I was just looking at your resume' thats on hold. Companies today are merciless.

typical situation...does not usually mean it is a rejection...just could mean something silly like the HR person has a temper and did not like the tone of your voice or email for no good reason...the job was cancelled...because it was listed without CIO approval, etc...or you were a complete nerd and messed it up.

This has happened to me a few times over the course of my career. A hiring manager has said that they were interested in bringing me in for an in-person interview, but they decided against a few days afterwards. I think they generally think I'm a great candidate, and so jump the gun at issuing the invitation. They then speak to a couple of other candidates that they like even more, and so the on-site interview never materializes.

Interviews are like jobs. You don't have one until you in the middle of it.

As an HR guy that handles corp recruiting I want to interject. HR rarely is the deciding factor on who gets follow up on or not, it's the Hiring Managers call.

Also, it's very common for Hiring Mangers to change up the requirements or direct expereince once the job was posted.

I've never been promised an interview then rejected for the interview itself. I've been rejected for a job after having an onsite.

This was my most recent experience being promised onsite and that HR would reach out to me and then it never materialized. Even, after telling me that even though it was a temp position, they have been known to create positions, and even went as far as to tell me I could learn about technology processes and so forth.

Even, asked for feedback, since I am a new graduate, so I can improve for next time. You guessed it.. silence...
