So, what your take on Glassdoor and other rating sites that rate businesses? Would you feel leery about a job if it wasn't on Glassdoor or any other job site (but only on a college job board)?

I wouldn't care what site a job posting was on, as long as it was with a legitimate company. Glassdoor's job ratings are humorous, because one never knows if they're from people who actually worked for a company, or simply people who couldn't get hired. Conversely, if a company has dozens of low ratings, I will notice this and it gives me a negative vibe about the place.

I think the salaries are accurate. The reviews I'd look for consensus. One bad review is a blip, several griping about the same thing is a pattern and probably true. However, I've heard that businesses can pay money to GD to remove bad reviews.
Yes, Glassdoor has been pretty accurate for me. One company I interviewed with was in total dysfunction, and the reviews indicated that. Another was a dead end job that "promises room for advancement" and was the most embarrassingly unprofessional interview process I had ever done. They called back two weeks later begging me to take the job, and I had to decline about 4 times before they would let me off of the phone. They have since reposted the job ad.
Glassdoor can also help from getting lowballed, depending on region.
For a huge corporation with 100k employees and offices all over the world, it may not be of much value.
I have worked in two different departments for the same company. I could have easily written a 1 star review and a 5 star review for the same company. There are different managers and work conditions.
While call center employees may be complaining about low wages and working weekends, the finance department may be fine with market salary and great benefits.
Some companies may have dozens of branch offices or thousands of retail locations. The work experience is highly dependent on the department manager.
I think that disgruntled employees are a lot more likely to post reviews and information on a site like that than happy employees would be. There's almost certainly a negative bias associated with the site, so just keep that in mind when reading there.
Glassdoor just doesn't seem to have enough reviews. I also see misplaced reviews, people writing about Company A in Ohio when they mean to be writing about Company A in Nevada (same name, different company).
