Applied to some restaurantes, to staples to fix computers, and now a couple warehouse companies.
So far no one has called me back and I called two companies and they both said they'd call me back if I was qualified, or after they take a look at my application and like it, but no call back.
First career straight out of college, I applied to a software company and got a job as a software developer.
2nd career, I applied to several law enforcement agencies while working in the first job. After a year of when I first applied and several physical and written tests later, I got offered a job with the state police. Worked there a number of years.
3rd career, I started hating the law enforcement path so I quit that and went back to grad school for engineering. Won 2nd place at the Chicago engineering design expo and got a job offer. Worked there a couple years.
3rd career/3rd job, out of the blue a recruiter/headhunter for a large engineering firm called me, introduced herself, and asked me to submit my resume on their company website. Within a week, I was offered a job in a management group. This was several months ago. I'm still trying to track down how the hell they got my info in the first place.
That's the short version of it. Suffice it to say, it took me 10 years to get to where I am. You're young and has plenty of time. Just keep your skills sharp and be on top of things.
I had been searching around for a job for 4 months to no avail. Got a handful of interviews but never was the final candidate. Family friend gave me a job at their company. It's terrible but it pays the bills, lol. Previous to this I got a job with no help from anyone just did well at an interview and had the same personality type as the manager that interviewed me.
I'm working for my brother. My mom told me he needed to hire someone to replace an employee that was leaving. I was about to quit my FT job and look for something PT. I texted him and he said he would consider me. I still had to interview by Skype (he lives across the country from me). Fortunately, I got the (remote) job.
With my last job, I replied to a Craigslist ad for a part-time position. After meeting me and learning of my experience, the employer instead created a full-time role for me.
The job before that, three different (external) recruiters contacted me via LinkedIn about it over a period of several months. I told all of them no (as I was not really interested in the job), but I finally relented with the last one and agreed to be interviewed. I neded up accepting purely due to the salary offer.
I sent out dozens of CVs and talked to many of my friends and past colleagues. I got an interview and did some name dropping of past coworkers and discovered one of them was employed there and was somewhat influential.
It sure didn't hurt that he had a good opinion of me from the past work experience we shared.
First job I saw a help wanted sign in the door, filled out an application and was hired.
Second job I saw an ad, filled out an application, was interviewed and hired.
Third job, same thing.
Fourth job, started my own business.
Fifth, saw a posting on an industry list serve, sent my resume in, was interviewed and hired. I knew the HM from industry associations.
Sixth, a posting on an industry association job board. Applied online, interviewed and hired. I knew the HM from industry association.
Seventh, recruited by a competitive company.
Eighth, saw a posting on an industry job board, applied online, was interviewed and hired. I did not know the HM, but we had colleagues in common who gave me a good reference.
