I have been looking for work for over a year with no luck. Can anyone direct me to recruiters in Central Texas; maybe a company website or if someone knows of one, pm the information to me?
My degrees are BS in Applied Sociology, MA in Sociology, and Forensic Psychology. Though I would like to get into mediation, jury consultant, etc., I am open to whatever it takes to get my foot in the door. Thanks for any tips and help.

I can't speak for anyone else but I've not responded since I don't understand how it is someone would take courses and get a degree for which there are no jobs in their preferred community.

Four years of school, plenty of time to prepare, research the market, come to know what jobs are where and you come out with a bunch of useless stuff.

Seems like ever since I got out of the Army I've been running into new grads without a Plan.

What in the world would you do with that degree and that coursework in Austin, Bryan or College Station?

You think as a new grad you are qualified to mediate and/or consult???

Of course not and that is not what I said. I'm old enough to know that you don't start out on top in any profession. In fact, I just applied for a P/T job at our county's DA office as an Administrative Assistant. I dumbed down my resume and applied. I'm ok with that. As far as why I chose those degree programs, I was a Locomotive Engineer for many years and following a work related injury, couldn't go back. After I was mobile again, I decided to go to college. My strength is in research, even prior to school. I have absolutely no talent or ability to be a business major or accountant, and have a history that supports that fact, despite successfully running our small business, lol.
My point is, I just want to get my foot in the door, Paul. I'm 57 and do not expect to start at the top.

Anyway, thank you for your input. I get your point and hope you understand where I'm coming from. Have a great evening.

Arabian,

I hope you kept in mind I responded to your post with what little information you let out.

Had you stated your position more fully from the start, my response would have been radically different.

Out of curiosity, what do you think it is a 'recruiter' could do for you that your local employment agencies could not?

Especially considering -according to what you said in your first post- you have had a year to find something.

I understand. I'm not well versed in landing a job now vs. 1993. Back then, I went through an application process plus 3 different interviews with management. Look, I need help and training with how to land a job in todays market. I do not expect to start at the top, but I just need a chance. Thanks again, Paul.
