Can companies overlook this if they really liked me? I mean since everything else checked out and it was just a little bit of a salary discrepancy which I gave them documentation for, bow big of a deal is this?.

They said that my salary discrepancy is now going to the escalation committee. They said they will review my case. Does anybody have any experience with this?
Never heard of "escalation committee" is that Hire-right or your employer. They really had no right to know your salary to begin with but going apecrap over a 5k discrepancy is bizarre. You should have just faked a w-2 or payslip using photoshop or word. Salary history is private and companies that bully private information deserve to be lied to.
It's my employer. The HR called me today to let me know that the 5K salary discrepancy is going to escalation committee and they will make the final decision. OMG
Unless you really have rare and in demand skills at this point it seems like the company is going to reject you. It is very bizarre for them to obsess over a $5k difference in salary which is not relevant information in the first place as if you faked your degree or something.
Overall it doesn't sound like a great company but in the future either be absolutely truthful on your salary or be prepared to edit/fake a w-2 or or paystub. That is my preferred method for d-bag employers who bully personal information from you that they have no right to.
