Reasons for leaving (interview, job, salary, moving)

What should you say during an interview if you are asked why you are leaving your current job? My story is that I've been at my current position for under a year. I like my job, but the pay is really low, and I dislike where I live.

Should I say something like: "I like my job and work well with my coworkers and manager, but I finally realized that this location just isn't for me long term. I'd love the opportunity to work at a smaller school in a smaller city in the Midwest."?

Does this come across too negative? Should I focus less on the location and more on the job itself? Is it acceptable to ever mention leaving for a higher salary?

Also, what reason have you given to your current supervisor for leaving? I've never actually had to quit a job before that wasn't related to me graduating from college, or moving to attend another school. Do you usually mention a salary increase, or do you just say the location is better? I work in higher education, so there most likely wouldn't be any salary increases offered to keep me here.
