I interviewed late October for a position I am truly excited about. I followed up two weeks later and the interviewer informed me that they are still interviewing candidates and she will let me know if they need me to come in to meet with other team members.

That was about 3 weeks ago. I worry if I don't continue showing interest that I will just fall through the cracks - should I follow up again or wait for her next email?

If they are interested, you won't follow through the cracks. No additional follow-up is needed.

Yeah, I think you're probably not going to get the job. In my experience, if things are taking longer than expected (does happen sometimes), they will proactively email you at least weekly, if they're truly interested. I would suggest you devote your attention to looking for other jobs. If they end up interested in the end (not very likely, but possible), they'll reach out to you.

Would you rather miss out on the opportunity because you annoyed them too much by e-mailing them once a week, or would you rather miss out on the job because you didn't follow up too in-frequently/not soon enough? Which one do you think is more likely?

You bring up a good point. Maybe I'll email in a few days just to check in, I know the interviewing process was delayed thanks to Superstorm Sandy (I live in the Tri-State area) and then Thanksgiving break just happened. Unless I email everyday from this point forward, I can't be bothering them too much.

I think neither scenario is likely.

October until now really is not that long of a time, especially given Hurricane Sandy as well as conflicting schedules of all of the people who need to look at an application, half of which are more than likely on vacation due to Thanksgiving. Following up politely every 3-4 weeks is acceptable, but don't be pushy, and don't email every week.

If you were out of the running, you would have been told. These things take a long time, just be patient. Emailing too often is definitely not a good thing!

Sounds like that email response was a indirect way of saying you are not being considered for the job and that you don't need to contact them. I wouldn't follow up anymore at this point since their last email was clear so I would just seek out other opportunities. I could be wrong but that email response doesn't look too good.

More likely that they had another candidate in mind, but that person had not yet accepted the offer. While it is true that this person is not "technically" out of the running, reading between the lines saves everyone a lot of time and unnecessary stress.
