I have been looking at Craigslist on a regular basis for some extra income and have noticed that under the GIGS, ETC and Part Time Sections quite a few short term temporary jobs ask for a picture to be submitted with the applicant's Resume.
Of course nothing stops the applicant from sending a picture of someone else, or themselves back in the day before they got old or fat, but the trend towards asking for a photo seems like an interesting change in the employment process.
I have been told that many employment and temporary agencies are moving towards a video of applicants. A friend of mine who applied at a local Temporary Agency, that specializes in filling administrative support positions, told me all applicants need to do a short video of themselves that is sent over the Internet along with their resume to potential employers. This allows the employer to chose only those candidates who are handsome, pretty, sexy and young. So I guess the requirement for a picture is not so bad.
What do you think of this new hiring trend? (pictures and videos)
The ones looking for a photo are looking strippers and call girls. Knock, knock...
Yes, that may be true in some cases buy these are for regular jobs at traditional companies. The video of the applicant REQUIREMENT is really taking off and brings up even more issues.

Well, i didn't notice any of the video requirement or mention of it on Craigs list!
But, I have noticed it on youtube, where young people have their video interviews. (I thought they were trying to get a job by accident, since none of them were dressed properly.)
If they place it on Youtube and then give the employer access, that is fine, since they can later on, have it removed, if they grow embarrassed by it later on. Or a yahoo account, which they can controll.
But I don't think, that if you are a regular person, who is not trying to be the next frank sinatra or whoopie goldberg, you should lose control over your image.
Yeah, I do not feel comfortable sending my picture to some stranger whom I have never met. I have been looking for jobs on craigslist too, but there is no way I am going to email a picture of me to a job that may or may not even really exist. There are lots of crazys and sickos out there.
I wonder if there is anyone on here who has sent in a picture or video interview of themselves and got an office job?
hmmm

A true "CV" usually has a picture, I have been asked many times, but I work abroad quite a bit. However in the states a "resume" is more the accepted practice for applicants..., so a picture seems out of place in the US.
I think it could be illegal in the U.S.- it reveals ethnicity/race, and they're not allowed to ask you that.
