Those timbers are the only snake in the midwest I'd be REALLY concerned about taking a bite from. Not that I'd want to get bit by others but they don't have the latin name Crotalus Horriblis for nothing.

Northern water snakes are not shy (ok, can be downright aggressive), they will swim after you! (been there, done that in a lake).

There are plenty of water moccassins in northern Missouri. And no, I'm not confused.
