Hey all,
I'll be visiting KC in February on a weekend. Never been there but will be staying at at the Hilton (President) hotel downtown. We are a couple in our late 20s. What do you recommend to do in that area? We just have about 1.5 days to spend. We will not have a car (but there is a hotel shuttle that drives us up to 3 miles in the area).

Thanks!

If you are interested in history, the Steamboat Arabia museum in the River Market (just north of downtown) and the World War 1 museum at the Liberty Memorial (~25th and Main) shouldn't be missed. Both are very unique.

That's the problem--I LOVE history...too much that will bore my g/f to tears. Got to find the right balance. Thanks for the suggestions so far!

Check out the Midland Theatre. You'll be right across from the Alamo Drafthouse, a great movie theater attached to a terrific pub, the Chesterfield. They do vintage movie quote-alongs, serve you food and liquor at your seat and all things awesome. If you like jazz, the Green Lady Lounge on 18th is terrific.

Green Lady? Is that the old Blue Room? Regardless, great idea for sure.

I would hit up the steamboat and or WWI museum as mentioned, both are really good and unique to KC. Just make the visits short. Negro League Baseball museum is great too. Nelson is awesome if you are into art at all.

If you have never been to KC, you have got to go to the Country Club Plaza. Just take a cab and spend an hour walking around.

Check out some free stuff around crown center. Hallmark Visitors Center, Money Museum (at fed reserve) or check out Union Station (at least walk inside). Boulevard Brewery is fun to tour too.

No, the Green Lady's at 18th and Grand, in the old Balanca's space. The Blue Room, is, as far as I know, still operating in 18th and Vine.

Blue Room is still open, Green Lady is a great new jazz bar. Broadway Jazz Bar bar just opened near Uptown Theatre. Phoenix and Majestic also doable jazz places. Kill Devil Club is probably most doable bar for touristy P&L District - a top rum bar in US. Also check out Manifesto in Crossroads for drinks.

For someone in their 20's, Westport (midtown) is generally better place to hang out. Also check out West 39th for ethnic eats. Crossroads (S of downtown center) also has quite a few non-mainstream bars/eats.

Here's a good site to check for things going on by blocks, also has mobile app. Punch in zip 64106 for downtown center, 64108 for Crossroads, 64111 for Westport.

College Basketball Experience if you love sports. Its very interactive. The Negro Baseball Museum is an underrated gem.

Nelson-Atkins Museum. Really should spend some time there, especially in the new modern wing. If you like more contemporary art, the Kemper Museum is nearby the Nelson and has more modern art. And if you really like avant garde stuff, there are a number of small galleries in the Crossroads.

Union Station is a good way to spend an afternoon. They have revolving exhibits (right now is Pirates), a free model train exhibit, a small train museum, an "extreme screen" movie theater, a planetarium, and a couple nice restaurants (Pierpont's is amazing, but expensive. Harvey's is nice, but service can be slow at times). Its also just a gorgeous building that was refurbished.

If the weather is decent you should just stroll around the Country Club Plaza. Great place to window shop and people watch. Tons of great dining options there too. I also echo Westport. Its an up and coming trendy place for young people with lots of the best new restaurants (Plaza is more chains and upscale places).
