Nope. I'm not an old kcmo poster. I have lived in overland park my entire time living in the kansas city area. And yes I live in the blue valley district but can't afford the 9 rated schools in shawnee mission. The higher rated schools (elementary through middle to high-school) are in affluent areas where the house prices are much higher. That doesn't work for our family or budget. Some of the schools in SM are rated terribly and they are in the areas where houses are cheaper.

Anyways. Thanks for the info received so far. I forgot to add that I work downtown so we can't go too far out from the city. It takes me about 30 minutes as is.

From my experience, Blue Valley is more expensive than Shawnee Mission. You will probably not get as nice a house or as new a house for the same price as you pay in Blue Valley, but you definitely can find something. For instance, the highest ranking high school in SM is SM East, and the grade and middle schools that feed into it are good too. You can definitely find something for $300,000 in the SM East area, it just may not be as new or as nice as you want, and I get that.

I'm surprised to hear that you have had a bad experience with Blue Valley; I would have expected them to be among the best as far as services. So I don't know if SM would be any better in that regard.
