Hello,

My husband and I are looking for an apartment close to KU Med Center that's in a safe area and not expensive. We're looking for a 1 bedroom for $650 that's about 10-15 minutes away from KUMC. I know that might be a long shot but I thought I'd see if anyone has any ideas. I'm not really sure what the areas of downtown KC are or the safest suburbs that are only 10-15 away. We're looking for some place quiet if possible, maybe families or professionals, not really looking for a social scene as much as for something safe and reasonable. Any help with areas to target our search in would be great or even apartment complexes that are recommended to check out or stay away from.

Thanks!!

$650 doesn't seem to go very far for rent in KC anymore. Just a couple years ago, that seemed to be a fine budget for a 1 bedroom, but with the way rents seem to be skyrocketing, your choices might be limited. There definitely are apartments in that price range, but you might have to make compromises.

Personally, if I worked at KUMC, I would be looking in the Volker and West Plaza neighborhoods, although there might be two issues for you: budget and "quiet". Quiet is a very relative term and might depend on where you are coming from or what you are used to. There are portions of those neighborhoods that I think many people would consider quiet, but there are also portions that might not fit that criteria.

For example, I found this apartment on Craigslist in West Plaza that looks pretty nice to me and would be very close to KUMC, but I don't know if it would match your definition of quiet (and I don't know anything about that building personally).

Safety won't be a huge issue, staying under budget may be the bigger one.
