Fascinating BBC documentary on what is going on with cosmologist and theoretical physicist regarding the creation of the universe, as it points to a number of scientist who questioning the idea that time and space began with the birth of the universe.

*Disclaimer: I despise having to start a thread based upon a video clip Youtube or otherwise, but I have no hope of explaining all this in my own words.

I'll have to search for that on my DVR. I'd like to see the whole documentary, that is really interesting. I'm an engineer and I've always had a hard time swallowing the theory of the Big Bang. Fascinating stuff.

All six parts are on YouTube. Just change the numbers after each clip.

But it's not really the Big Bang concept that's in debate here is it? Sounds like it's more about the question of whether the "Bang" grew out of absolute "nothingness", or if it emerged out of some sort of ultimate "singularity", albeit one that already contained everything in the universe. And regardless, nobody seems to be denying the central fact that universe is still expanding..... presumably from a state that was once much more "compact"!

Just personally, I like the Hindu cosmology of the universe as some sort of cosmic "egg" ("singularity"?) that infinitely cycles back and forth between expansion and total collapse, especially as there seems to be evidence emerging of "previous" universes, existing before ours.

I suspect it is more of a pulse thing, expanding and either contracting or staying static until the next pulse as it continues expanding out into space, I also suspect that, because the human lifespan is not long enought, we have not picked up on the pulse.

It's not really that the BIG BANG is wrong...it's what came before it....because the Big Bang assumed there was nothing before. Now we are leaning towards a MultiVerse......or possibly cyclical Universe....essentially many Big Bangs and Universes. We often discuss this in the Science Forum...do a thread search there OR stop by and we will answer your specific questions as best we can.

Ill stick to Genesis in the Bible for how the Creator really did it , which was bringing the Universe into existence out of nothing complete with over 150 extremely narrow scientifically confirmed Physics Constants which enable human life on a miraculous planet as Earth is. A personal theistic Creator is to me, the only rational conclusion for all we have with its mega enormous complexity , sustanence of our Solar System working flawlessly , and such things as specific informational messages in the DNA Molecule ...so dense that a pinhead of DNA would fill books going from Earth to our Moon 500 times over. To think there is no ultimate intelligence above and beyond our finite Universe is simply ludicrous to me , and in fact, the knowledge of Gods handiwork is intrinsic to all of us which cant be honestly denied or refuted. A 'Big Bang' that 'naturally' produced highly personal traits such as love, reasoning, abstract thought, empathy, et al... from non-personal materials such as rocks, dirt, hydrogen gas , etc...from an accidental massive explosion is beyond lunacy . Im glad God is a personal knowable Being who proved his love for us by creating such a nice home called Earth with everything that is required to go along with it. And i truly enjoy getting to know him better each day .

Theoretically, I don't have a problem with your view point since it isn't beyond the realm of possibility as pure speculation goes, that is as long as you leave it at that. However once you bring into the equation the biblical narrative and the underlying theology, we have serous problems with believability.
