I am relocating back home to Kansas City in 2 weeks. I've been on the west coast for 7 years. I have 2 small dogs that I take to the groomer monthly. Ideally I'd like to find a place that doesn't crate the dogs after bathing. I went to a place like that for years in San Diego. I'm in Seattle right now and couldn't find a place anywhere up here that operated their business that way.
I'm open to recommendations!

Depends what part of KC you will be in. In old Leawood (Ks side) there is Bobbie's grooming. And in Waldo there is Pampered Paws grooming. Both do crate dogs folloing their grooming. I liked the grooming at Bobbie's better than Pampered Paws but I could usually get my dogs into Pampered Paws with a few days notice and someitmes I had to wait months to get into Bobbie's.

There is also a pet spa chain here called "Pete & Mac's" which offers grooming. They have 3 locations in the KC metro area. They also cage dogs after grooming/drying is compete.

Check out Winding River Vet clinic in the Martin City area of Kansas City. See if Sandy is still there.

We've used the Pete & Mac's in Lenexa and they're excellent. Not the cheapest, but top notch. The girl that does our dogs used to be a people hair stylist, so my dogs don't look like they were groomed with a chainsaw. You have no idea how many bad groomers we had after we moved here. It's a long drive rthat I have to make twice in a day when we take the dogs to Pete & Mac's, but it's worth it. We just don't do it once a month any more. More like three or four times a year.

I can't even imagine booking grooming for my dog months in advance (unless he were a show dog, maybe, which he's not). I don't even book my OWN grooming that far in advance.

I use Canine Fashions on the KC/Raytown city limits. He's really good with the dogs, even my bratty dog likes him. We mention his name and she starts wagging her tail. She doesn't exactly look forward to be washed brushed and shaved, but she's not shivering like she used to.
Only thing is, he does put them in metal kennels, but he usually gets them done in a timely fashion, and calls immediately to let you know they're done. And he's super cheap. He has usually charged us between 25 and 30 dollars a dog. It's a small shop, but I won't take my dogs anywhere else.
