The Latest: Kansas Legislature passes big income tax hike | McClatchy DC
Discuss. What are the implications of this? It will be interesting to see what changes when a new governor takes over.

The Governor will veto it. He calls it an attack on the middle class. I think it has more to do with protecting farmers who have been hit hard lately.

Also, 53,000 farmers did not pay income taxes, according to the department.

I looked around and couldn't see what the rate change would be, anyone know? I won't be surprised if Brownback vetoes it either.

It looks like there is a good chance we will be closing our business and moving out of state at the end of the year, so it probably won't effect me too much. I didn't necessarily support Brownbacks tax cuts and exemptions, and I sure didn't vote for him, but having an extra 4% in my pocket each year was pretty nice.

Haha. It's some unknown job as ambassador to the UN Agency for Food and Agriculture. Still probably pays a good amount. It must be nice to have influential friends. He might as well sell his house and move to DC too.

Actually, to be honest I think it will be a good position for him. I think his passion has always been to help people in crisis and that went in conflict with him being governor. He always promoted bringing in refugees and helping developing countries until the current populist position changed to being the opposite of that.

I know, he was a key player in getting the African American Museum built, perhaps his true strengths and accomplishments lie outside of Kansas.

Here are some of his other accomplishments

1999 aid for South Sudan
Senate passes humanitarian aid for Southern Sudan - Sudan | ReliefWeb

2006 pathway for amnesty
A Conservative Crosses the Border

2016 African American Museum
https://www.google.com/amp/s/kansasc...104060576.html

2005 Obama and Brownback wrote an article together on aid forDarfur
Barack Obama and Sam Brownback - Policy Adrift on Darfur

2006 article on his "compassionate conservativism"
Africa wins if Sen. Brownback is the GOP Nominee

I have to wonder if he regrets running for governor, it has destroyed his legacy.

I don't know, there are some pretty crappy politicians whose true calling and legacy were outside of office. Jimmy Carter would be a poster-child for it. Hopefully he will do some good elsewhere.
