I live in Kansas, but I haven't ever been farther east than Salina or Wichita. What is the most dangerous city in Kansas?

Sorry, but this seems like a silly question.

Statistically speaking, Wichita probably has the highest crime rate (but I may be wrong). But Wichita, for the most part, is not a "dangerous" place to live by any means. Any city is going to have its nicer areas and its higher-crime spots. But in general, cities in KS are relatively low-crime.

I found the detailed profile of Kansas City, and it has around the same number of murders as Wichita, but is only a third of the size.

Having lived in Chicago, everything is relative.
There are some rough neighborhoods in the KC Kansas area but on the whole there really isn't that bad of areas in the state.
Heck, I live in a *nice* suburb of KC and there have been 4 murders that I know of within 1-2 miles of my house in the past 10 years.

I would guess Kansas City KS would have the worst. Lots of drugs, ghettoites and rednecks call it home. Most of the decent people that get up and go to work everyday fled for Johnson County years ago. That said, even there you can find nice parts of the city if you go further west. But downtown and Quindaro are very dangerous places.

If there have been 4 murders, it is not "nice" unless they were domestics.

You can't compare entire cities like this. KCMO always ranks high, but it's such a large city that it has high crime areas and low crime areas. It's just the high crime areas are bad enough to drown out the good areas in the stats.

KCK, Wichita etc should not be labeled worst cities because both of those towns have safe areas too.

Now smaller towns may be a bit different. But crime in small town Kansas? I read about all these small town hispanic gangs etc on these forums and all I can do is laugh. You have to be kidding me. .

Well, the latest one was the Liquor store at 75th and Quivera...Mr G's I think it's called?

Then the gal abducted from the Target behind Oak park mall at 96th and Quivera a few years ago.

Oh, and Police shot a guy dead at the mongolian BBQ place at 95th and Quivera just a week or two ago. He'd flashed a gun at someone in OP and then got spotted over that way and was shot in his car.

Just saying there are a ton of people that come through those areas and occasionally things happen.

I still consider Lenexa and Shawnee Mission to be nice areas.

The thing is, these "small-town Hispanic gangs" are often just a bunch of dumb kids who think because they like a certain color that they can "claim" a gang. But, we have some people from areas like L.A. and Chicago who come down trying to start new chapters (ex. the Surenos from East L.A. and the Folks from Southside Chicago). The only home grown gang here that anyone takes seriously are the Westside Aztecas, because they've been around since the '80's.

A report out today on NPR says violent crime is dropping all over the US ,except in small towns (25,000- 50,000) where it is rising.
