We're thinking of buying a house, and coming from a place where there weren't really lawns, to now living in a townhouse where the lawncare is included, I have no idea what to expect. How much does it cost to hire someone to come in and mow the lawn?

That varies with where you live. Where I used to live, a man offered to mow my half acre yard for $40. Around some areas they may not even unload the mowers for that price. You need to talk to someone around where you're moving.

It also depends on the size of your lawn, if you want a simple mow with the clippings left in place, if you want to have your sidewalks and driveway blown clean of clippings and edged...lots of factors.

If you go with a mowing company, you can expect a good job but will pay more than if you can find a "yard guy" like mine - read on:

My neighbor's teenage grandson mows my suburban lawn for $20, with none of the "extras" included. My lawn is small-to-average in size, in an older neighborhood. This young man has also cleaned my gutters, raked and bagged autumn leaves, and trimmed hedges and various shrubs, with prices fitted to each job. I'm very glad to have him handle these repeated but necessary tasks.
