My wife has a solid job opportunity lined up in Paducah. I have employment possibilities about 45 minutes away. We are considering the move. Though we are conservatives, we like the artsy, historic type neighborhoods. We like bars, locally owned shops, and other "hippy looking" or "classy" strips. We don't particularly need a big city, just swanky type areas fit for a young couple in their mid-20's. I know Kentucky is not particularly known for these type of areas, but maybe there is an area that suits our wishes? Our combined income would be pretty good, so we should be able to move to any area within Paducah. Your input/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hmmmmmm...I'd consider Murray in Western KY. There aren't that many hip, trendy places in WKY for young couples. Not that Murray's exactly hip, but it is a college town with a few young professionals.

Otherwise, I'd frankly just do Nashville. Yes, it's larger and in Tennessee, but I'd recommend it over our two largest cities, Louisville and Lexington, anyway.

Paducah has an interesting downtown, with lots of older buildings which have been rehabbed to house antique malls and craft shops. In addition, the Great American Quilt Museum is there, and there are notable quilt festivals and other events. Paducah encourages artists and craftspersons to live and work there.

I cannot comment about housing, but these other aspects of Paducah would seem to fit your interests well.

Paducah's a nice place. Lone Oak and other suburbs of Paducah are also well developed and local to everything Paducah offers. We live in Murray which, yes, is a college town and all, but if you're looking for patio bars with musical entertainment versus keg sports bars, gravitate towards Paducah. Benton is another town kind of between the two that has some very nice places to live, is closer to the lakes than Paducah, but still relatively local to the "nightlife" and cultural events there.
