Hi,

I live in Vermont with my husband and three small children. We are considering moving to Kentucky because we have been to Independence KY near cinci. and thought KY was beautiful. We need to escape the cold and snow. We are looking for a four bedroom/ 2 bath newer home on at least .50 an acre for under 200,000. My brother in law works near Louisville and suggested Georgetown. What do you think? We are looking for the best schools in the area also. Also I am a elem. school teacher and my husband is an HVAC (heating, ventilation and AC) technician, how is the job market in that area?

Thanks for your help.

Georgetown and Scott County schools are not particularly the best schools around. You might look into Jessamine, Franklin, or Boyle County if you want to be near Lexington, but not actually IN Lexington. All of those towns (Frankfort, Georgetown, and Danville) are around 20- 30,000 people. What else are you looking for?

Sorry, but I respectfully disagree. Scott County tends to score higher than any of the other school districts that you mentioned, especially in regards to elementary school, and one of its elementary schools (Anne Mason) tends to be toward the top of the state. Scott County schools are usually well-funded and teachers are paid higher salaries than most surrounding districts. In fact, there have been some elementary school teaching positions that have had over 100 applicants, many from surrounding counties.

Thanks for the scores. Those seem pretty good. Do you have any idea how involved the towns people are in that area as far as a PTA/PTO? What types of sports programs and other extracurriculars are standard in KY, I'm assuming hockey is not one of them as it is here in Vermont. Is Georgetown area pretty safe?
