That's pretty good! I know Rodman Meacham and had talked to his dad a few times years ago. He died not too long ago. When I got suckered, er, I mean talked into being cubmaster for the Cub Scouts in Sturgis, Rodman was one of the den leaders. You walked into that ham shop and you can smell the smoke and the salt. A blind man would know what's being sold there! My ex wife used to make sausage balls using Meacham's smoked cheddar cheese and once we used some of their sausage too. She had a hard time keeping me out of it! lol
I'm in Cadiz now, in Broadbent country! lol But now the Broadbent ham Co. moved their processing plant and shop to Kuttawa, just off exit 40 on I-24. Cadiz still has the Country Ham Festival the 2nd weekend in October. www.thehamfestival.com (broken link) Check out the world's largest country ham biscuit! It's good!

That is very interesting, Missy. I think those from Kentucky just assume they have country ham everywhere, but not so. I have family way down south in Mississippi and Louisianna and you can't buy it there. They love to come to Kentucky to get their country ham. My sister moved to northern Ohio for a few years and she missed country ham also. I think way down south it must not get cold enough in the winter to properly cure the ham, but I don't know why they don't have it further north. Just not part of their culture I guess.

My dad used to always pick up a big 'ol country ham every time we visited Kentucky. Many a time I shared the back seat with one all the way back to Florida!

Dang, now I'm craving some biscuits & red-eye gravy....

Digger, I had something like that, but not as pleasant, coming back to Kentucky from Florida. We spent a week in Daytona and took a friend of my brothers. One of the first things the friend did was buy a bag of oranges. This was in the early 70s when not everybody (including us) had an air conditioned car. The orange salesman told us not to let the oranges get hot. Don't put them in the trunk! So the friend had to sit with a bag of oranges between his legs the entire trip home, with several stops in between! He was tired of oranges before he ever ate one! lol

Dixie and Digger you can always go online and order a ham probably from any of those places in the article!

That is so true about going online. They might do that these days, I was thinking back before the internet times. I order some good foods on the internet I can't buy locally. The internet has made the world so much smaller.

I know Meacham's does. My parent's neighbors order from them a lot, expecially around Christmas. www.meacham (broken link)hams.com
