Hi I am narrowing down my search for small family towns to move thats near Lexington, Ky. I have so far Danville, Berea, Richmond, and Springfield. I am looking for small safe towns that would be great for a single mother. I hope that I could find malls and shopping not far off. If anyone could help me please do.

Thanks

Fayette Mall (built in 1970-71) is about 1 hour from Springfield. There are three nice malls in Louisville plus one more in Clarksville, IN, all about 1:15 to 1:30 from Springfield. I would tell you to add Carrollton KY to your list. 1/2 way between Louisville and Florence. Quality houses at a good price, decent schools, too.

Fayette Mall has been added on to and remodeled so many times since it was first built that it looks as if it's new. There is a new addition that was added just a couple years ago.

Yes, I was there at the original opening of Fayette Mall (worked at Sears) and I was there yesterday (Sat May 8, 2010). One must admire the updates, expansions, and maintainance of Fayette Mall; however, don't drive your nice car. Odds of an accident are very high due to the traffic patterns both on the Mall property and the public roads surrounding. Wild and crazy!

Thanks so much for replying Carrollton KY also sounds like a place I would enjoy. I really appreciate all information on great family surrounding cities. Springfield seems to be a bit too far from shopping when needed. Again Thanks

Small safe town for a single mother? Lexington sounds like what you're looking for :P

If not Lexington, aim for Woodford, Bourbon, Clark, Scott, and Madison counties, they will be the ones with the better schools. Danville has alright schools, as does Jessamine county. Maybe you could look into Wilmore? 15 minutes from Lexington but tiny 5,000 population feel, with a seasonal swelling for Asbury U

They're REALLY not that bad. I'm a younger driver with less than 10 years of experience, I drive by 2-4 times a day and have never had an accident there, however, the northbound split of the left lane for New Circle has people always swerving into your lane.

Also, merging in when traveling southbound to get to Lexington Green.

I'm pretty sure trained monkeys could've designed Lexington's roadways better.
